Newcastle United appear to be on the brink of selling Miguel Almiron.
Six years after arriving at Newcastle United, it looks like Miguel Almiron’s Toon career is coming to an end.
Newcastle are set to accept Atlanta United’s offer for Almiron, as the Magpies prepare to cash in on a player who has barely featured for Eddie Howe’s side this season.
But while Almiron looks set to leave, that does not necessarily mean that a replacement will arrive.
Paul Mitchell could risk not replacing Almiron until the summer, which will leave Eddie Howe’s side short of attacking options for the rest of the season. That feels like a dangerous game – especially with Harvey Barnes currently injured.
Miguel Almiron exit could be good news for Trevan Sanusi

However, Newcastle’s risk could create opportunity.
If Newcastle do decide against signing a replacement and are suddenly short of attackers, Trevan Sanusi could be poised to benefit.
The 17-year-old made his senior debut recently, coming off the bench during Newcastle’s 3-1 win over Bromley in the FA Cup.
It was great to see Sanusi get a chance, and he showed flashes of why he is so highly rated by Newcastle United staff. However, he also showed his inexperience and lack of physicality – but that is not a concern for a teenager with just one professional appearance to his name.
Newcastle United to keep Trevan Sanusi at St James’ Park
More opportunities will hopefully come his way, with Newcastle not planning to loan Sanusi out.
That feels like a smart decision, and Almiron’s exit will ideally lead to him training more regularly with the first-team. Working alongside elite attackers like Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak will only help the winger, with Eddie Howe keen for Sanusi to improve his end product.
Of course, Sanusi will only get chances to play for the Newcastle first-team if he fully earns the trust of Howe. The Newcastle United manager will not play youngsters for the sake of it, with Will Osula forced to watch on from the sidelines a lot during his debut campaign.
But Sanusi has the potential to become a star in the Premier League. Sanusi has been compared to Allan Saint-Maximin – he is the type of player that fans love to watch. We might get the chance to watch him more this season, as Almiron prepares to depart.
While it is a lot to ask a 17-year-old to step up and play Premier League football after an FA Cup cameo against a League Two side, the likelihood is that Newcastle United will not need to rely on Sanusi. But with an Almiron replacement deemed unlikely, Sanusi could at least be on standby to capitalise on any opportunities that come his way.
