Trevan Sanusi made his Newcastle United debut in front of a packed St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.

Eddie Howe decided to introduce the 17-year-old as a second-half substitute during Newcastle United’s 3-1 win over Bromley.

Trevan Sanusi has impressed coaches at Newcastle and is widely viewed as one of the club’s most exciting talents coming through the academy.

It felt as though it was only a matter of time before Sanusi made his senior debut after dominating youth games at every level.

Sanusi was ‘fast-tracked’ to the first team at Newcastle and Howe decided he was ready for his debut against League Two Bromley in the FA Cup. The Magpies will face Birmingham City in the fourth round, where Sanusi will hope for more senior minutes.

What Eddie Howe said about Trevan Sanusi after Newcastle debut

Trevan Sanusi was brought on for the final 20 minutes against Bromley in place of goalscorer William Osula.

After the full-time whistle, Howe praised Sanusi but was eager to keep the youngster grounded by naming one aspect of his game that could be improved.

As quoted by the Northern Echo, Howe said: “He had a really good pre-season with us and then went back, and then I think he’s come strong again in recent weeks and is doing well.

“This (his debut) will be a big moment for him. I’d love to see him get some more opportunities, but that will be dependent, of course, on how the players are playing within the squad.

“He has a nice way of riding tackles, he’s got really good balance, but like most young players, there’s stuff to improve. His end product needs to get better, so we’ll continue to work with him on that.”
