Newcastle United vindicated as more news on Bryan Mbeumo comes out – Alexander Isak would have been angry

Newcastle United have lost out on the signing of Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo was a Newcastle United transfer target this summer but now appears to be set to join Manchester United instead.

Mbeumo has chosen to join Manchester United, a development that came shortly after Liam Delap rejected Newcastle for Chelsea.

They are hardly welcome developments but club owners PIF cannot be held to ransom.

Indeed, Brentford’s asking price for Mbeumo was too much for Newcastle, and that’s even without considering his sizeable wage demands.

More news on them has now emerged.

Bryan Mbeumo demands more than double Alexander Isak’s Newcastle United salary

According to The Times, the Cameroon star wants a whopping £250k-per-week at Old Trafford.

That is more than double Alexander Isak’s Newcastle salary, which is believed to be worth around £120k-per-week.

Isak is Newcastle’s most in-demand player and the idea of seeing a new signing instantly coming in on those wages would surely have complicated the club’s contract talks with the Sweden star.

Isak is set for contract talks at Newcastle, with the club keen to improve his current deal. His contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2028, but such fine form has attracted the interest of other clubs, meaning Newcastle will need to reward the striker.

Geordie Boot Boys understands Isak could become Newcastle’s highest-paid player, an honour which is currently taken by Bruno Guimaraes.

Had the forward seen Mbeumo arrive on such a huge salary, he’d have been well within his rights to demand even more. Not moving for the Brentford star seems wise, if they are the demands.

PlayerWages
Bruno Guimaraes£160k-per-week
Joelinton£150k-per-week
Anthony Gordon£150k-per-week
Alexander Isak£120k-per-week

What Newcastle United are thinking after Bryan Mbeumo transfer collapse

There’s little need to panic, even if it would be nice to see Newcastle finally strengthen their squad.

The double hit of seeing Delap and Mbeumo go elsewhere was certainly painful, but Newcastle are confident they will enjoy a successful transfer window.

Overpaying for targets is a risk. Eddie Howe has built a fantastic squad at St James’ Park and doing anything that could upset the harmony may cause unwelcome implications.

Newcastle’s recruitment staff have earned the right to be trusted. They’ve hardly put a foot wrong over the years.

At some point, the club need to get a move on. There’s little doubt about that.

However, they can’t really be criticised for refusing to overpay.
