Monday night brought the news Newcastle United fans did not want to hear in regard to Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo is a leading target at Newcastle United this summer, with the Brentford forward having scored 20 Premier League goals during the 2024/25 campaign.

Indeed, Newcastle have held talks with Mbeumo, but it now appears as if he’s got his eyes on another move instead.

The club have already missed out on the signing of Liam Delap to Chelsea. Newcastle fans slammed Delap for rejecting them in favour of a move to Stamford Bridge and now supporters have reacted to the Mbeumo snub.

Newcastle United fans unhappy with PIF’s transfer strategy

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Mbeumo has decided he wants to join the Red Devils this summer despite interest from Newcastle and other clubs.

The Old Trafford giants are now expected to open formal talks with Brentford over a move for the player.

It’s safe to say the news has not gone down well amongst Newcastle fans on social media platform X. Fans online were angry with decision-makers at the club for not moving quickly enough.

“Teams that want to get to places don’t hang round. Look at Chelsea, Man City at the very beginning of their projects!!! We have had 3 transfer windows to get ready!,” wrote another fan.

Another claimed: “Another window where we feel completely underprepared.”

“Can’t say I’m surprised literally too slow,” said another.

Why Bryan Mbeumo rejected Newcastle for Manchester United

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Mbeumo was sold on the Manchester United project.

Quite why that is remains to be seen. Clearly, they are a huge club with a history few can match but little about what they’ve done in recent years would suggest they can restore those former glories.

The wages on offer will no doubt help, too.

Sadly for Newcastle, it looks like they need to move on to the next one. This is a hugely important summer for the club and it certainly hasn’t got off to the most positive of starts.

There’s still plenty of time to get new faces through the door but the transfer window hasn’t started at a searing pace, to say the least.

Hopefully, Newcastle can start to strengthen again soon.
