Newcastle United are aiming to hand Anthony Gordon a new contract, and now they could make his transfer wish come true as well.
The 23-year-old is due to return to Tyneside next week, following speculation that he could join Liverpool. But Toon officials want to keep him, and it has been reported that Newcastle will open contract talks with Gordon upon his return.
A new deal on improved terms will certainly please Anthony Gordon, while he will also be delighted to discover the latest player that Paul Mitchell is trying to bring to St James’ Park.
What Anthony Gordon said in June
During Euro 2024, Gordon told TalkSPORT in an interview that he would love Newcastle United to sign Marc Guehi.
Guehi had been linked with Newcastle, which resulted in Gordon admitting that the defender would be a great addition to Eddie Howe’s squad.
“I haven’t actually seen the Newcastle links, but it goes without saying I’d absolutely love him to come because he’s a top player and he’d make us a better team,” he said.

Newcastle make move to sign Marc Guehi
Now Gordon’s dream could become a reality, with journalist David Ornstein providing some exciting transfer news regarding Newcastle United.
According to the Athletic, Newcastle United have opened talks with Crystal Palace about signing Marc Guehi.
They report that while Guehi has plenty of suitors, Newcastle are the first club to make a firm move to sign the 24-year-old.
Marc Guehi was outstanding at Euro 2024
Newcastle’s interest in Guehi comes off the back of the centre-back excelling at Euro 2024.
He started all but one of England’s games at the Euros, shining at the heart of defence alongside John Stones.
While England made it to the final, there were plenty of poor performances. However, that was not the case with Guehi, who was arguably Gareth Southgate’s best player.
Guehi was described as ‘brilliant‘ by Jude Bellingham, and now Newcastle are hoping that he can potentially bring his international form to the North East of England.
Interestingly, Guehi recently stated that St James’ Park is his favourite stadium after Selhurst Park, and it could now become his permanent home if Toon officials are able to agree a deal.
Newcastle have also been linked with Malick Thiaw
News of an approach for Guehi has certainly come out of the blue, as it had looked like Malick Thiaw was Newcastle’s top centre-back target.
Eddie Howe recently praised Thiaw during a press conference, with Newcastle in talks to bring the 22-year-old to Tyneside.
But he is not the only defender that Newcastle are trying to sign, with Guehi also the subject of an approach.
It remains to be seen which centre-back is Newcastle’s number one target, but either would be more than welcome at St James’ Park.
