Newcastle United are looking at other strikers ahead of Liam Delap’s transfer to Chelsea.

The 22-year-old’s decision has been made, with Liam Delap choosing to join Chelsea despite interest from Newcastle United.

That deal is close to being finalised, as the Magpies get set to officially miss out on the £30million forward.

Eddie Howe was keen to sign Delap for that amount, and now Newcastle are looking for alternatives.

It is vital that someone arrives, especially with Callum Wilson due to leave Newcastle at the end of June when his contract expires.

Newcastle’s interest in Delap showed their willingness to spend, and now another option could be available.

PSG willing to sell Goncalo Ramos

There are going to be changes at Paris Saint-Germain on the back of winning the Champions League.

Luis Enrique intends to freshen up his squad, and L’Equipe report that Goncalo Ramos is a player who is available for a move away.

The Portuguese attacker played six minutes of the 5-0 win over Internazionale on Saturday night, replacing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia when the game was already won.

Ramos’ future appears to lie away from PSG, and he is someone who Newcastle United know all about.

Newcastle United nearly signed Goncalo Ramos

Newcastle tried to sign Ramos in the summer of 2023.

Howe had kept the Magpies in the Premier League, and was looking for a new striker to compete with Callum Wilson and Chris Wood. There was interest in Hugo Ekitike, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Joao Pedro.

There was also a pursuit of Ramos, with the now 23-year-old becoming Newcastle’s top target.

It was reported that Newcastle were actually close to signing Ramos, only to end up opting for Alexander Isak instead.

That proved to be a smart decision, with Newcastle’s most expensive signing scoring 62 goals since arriving on Tyneside.

Now he needs more cover, and Ramos could be an interesting option to provide that.

In terms of stature, Ramos is similar to previous target Delap. They are both 6ft1in, with the former proving to be a real aerial threat.

While Ramos is slightly older than Delap, he is also much more prolific in front of goal. He scored 41 goals during his Benfica career, before netting 32 times in PSG colours.

In contrast, Delap has only scored 25 competitive goals during his senior career so far.

Newcastle need to find an alternative to Delap, and they could land someone even better if they decide to reignite their interest in Ramos. That could be a smart decision, depending on his price tag.
