While the Premier League’s transfer window closed last week, Jamaal Lascelles’ future at Newcastle United has remained unresolved.
The 30-year-old defender was linked with a move away from Newcastle United during the January transfer window, with Besiktas eyeing up a deal for the Toon skipper.
They were looking to take advantage of Jamaal Lascelles‘ contract situation, with his deal at St James’ Park due to expire in the summer.
And with the Turkish transfer window still open until February 9th, there was a chance that Lascelles could still leave the club despite Newcastle no longer having the ability to sign a replacement.
However, news coming out of Turkey on Sunday hints that Besiktas’ interest in Lascelles is now set to be over.

Besiktas deal should end their interest in Jamaal Lascelles
According to the Athletic, Joe Worrall is set to leave Nottingham Forest and sign for Besiktas on loan. They state that the 27-year-old player is due to undergo a medical, having arrived in Turkey after terms were agreed between both clubs.
That is good news for Newcastle, as Worrall is a centre-back just like Lascelles. Therefore, it feels fair to assume that this loan deal will end Besiktas’ pursuit of the Toon captain.
That will be music to the ears of Eddie Howe, who will have been reluctant to let Lascelles leave – even more so now due to not being able to sign a replacement.
It would have been a huge risk to let Lascelles go. He has actually ended up playing a lot of football this season, and has been absolutely ‘excellent‘ when called upon.
His stock has really increased this season, proving that he is a more than able deputy for Fabian Schar and Sven Botman.
Now he looks set to continue in that role for the rest of the campaign, while the club will discuss internally whether or not to give him a new contract.
