Newcastle United had heroes all over the pitch as they beat Arsenal to advance to the Carabao Cup final.
The Magpies are heading back to Wembley, as Newcastle beat Arsenal 2-0 to secure a 4-0 victory on aggregate. It was a special night inside St James’ Park, as Eddie Howe’s special team put themselves on the brink of history yet again.
Every player in black and white delivered, with Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon sending the Toon Army wild with their goals.
Alexander Isak did not get on the scoresheet, but he certainly was spectacular. He thought he had given Newcastle the lead, only to be ruled offside. He then teed up the Magpies’ opener after crashing an effort off the bar before Murphy followed up.
The 25-year-old was exceptional, occupying the two Arsenal centre-backs and giving them a torrid time. William Saliba and Gabriel are normally so impressive, but they could not handle Isak.
Newcastle United’s top performer against Arsenal

However, the biggest hero in black and white was Kieran Trippier.
The 34-year-old was recalled to the starting XI, replacing Tino Livramento on the right of defence. It was a bold decision by Eddie Howe, but it proved to be the correct one.
Trippier was outstanding. He epitomised what he brings to this Newcastle United team, as his leadership and experience helped ensure that the Magpies got over the line.
From an Arsenal perspective, he must have been awful to play against. He was nasty yet intelligent, getting his temperament exactly right on what was an emotional night at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United have to keep Kieran Trippier
It was a performance that proved exactly why Newcastle must not let Trippier go, despite interest from Turkey.
Galatasaray want to sign Trippier, with the Turkish transfer window open until February 11th. Geordie Boot Boys have been told that Trippier wants to join Galatasaray, having requested to leave Newcastle last summer.
But there was no hint of Trippier wanting to depart on Wednesday night. It was the type of performance that summed up what a transformative signing he has been on Tyneside.
While he is no longer a regular starter, the win over Arsenal proved why he is so valuable to Eddie Howe. On a night of incredible magnitude, Newcastle needed nous and experience. Trippier provided that, and it is pivotal that he stays at St James’ Park until the end of the season.
