Newcastle United have signed Spanish teenager Antonio Cordero, but who exactly is he?
It’s been a slog of a summer transfer window for Newcastle United, with the club missing out on top targets like Bryan Mbeumo, Joao Pedro and Matheus Cunha.
There does seem to be some light at the end of the tunnel with Anthony Elanga set to sign and James Trafford hopefully to follow.
The first signing of the transfer window, however, was exciting young winger Antonio Cordero.

How old is Antonio Cordero?
Antonio Jose Cordero Campillo, known as Antonito, was born on November 14, 2006, in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.
As of January 2025, he is 18 years old but has already got plenty of first-team experience under his belt.

Cordero stands at 5’10” (178cm) tall, making him a good height for a winger.
His frame helps him gain great speed when attacking but he still has physical prowess to battle defenders.
What position is Antonio Cordero?
Antonito is a winger and predominantly likes playing on the left flank. That’s so he can cut inside on his stronger right foot.
However, he is versatile and capable of playing on his natural side as well.

Antonio Cordero to Newcastle United transfer
The Daily Mail reported on January 31 that Newcastle have ‘held talks’ with Cordero over a pre-contract agreement.
The Malaga starlet’s contract with the Segunda Division side was set to expire in the summer and, as a result, he was free to negotiate with foreign clubs ahead of a potential free transfer.
Such a move, it’s added, would be a big boost for Newcastle as it wouldn’t negatively impact their standings with PSR.
Newcastle confirmed Cordero’s arrival on July 1, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona to his signature.
He was sent out on loan to Belgian side Westerlo for the season but hasn’t been given much of a chance so far.

Is Antonio Cordero good?
Despite his tender years, Cordero is already a regular starter in the Malaga first team and has amassed an impressive 43 senior appearances.
Antonito only made his debut in 2023 but is now one of the most important players in his side, missing just two league games this season. In his 23 appearances this term he has managed four goals and six assists.
He has also impressed at international level, having risen to the Spanish U19s.
Cordero bounced around several academies before finding success at Malaga, having also been on the books at Sevilla, Real Betis and Cadiz.
