Newcastle United are set to announce the signing of Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest after a deal worth up to £55m was agreed upon.
It is only a matter of time before the deal is officially announced by the club, putting a near two-year wait for a major signing on Tyneside.
Newcastle United agreed a £55million deal for Anthony Elanga on Monday, with a big step being made after an issue with the player changing agencies midway through the deal jeopardised its completion.
The 23-year-old has since been seen arriving on Tyneside and subsequently at the training ground for his medical ahead of the move. Elanga’s signing sees a long-running transfer saga come to an end after a failed bid in 2024 and secret talks in January, which were shut down by Eddie Howe.
Alan Shearer has praised Newcastle for signing Elanga, a deal he believes gives the Magpies much more depth in attack ahead of a busy season. With Elanga set to sign, Howe must see what Diogo Dalot had to say about the Sweden international in 2023.

Diogo Dalot praised Anthony Elanga’s professionalism in 2023
Elanga burst onto the scene at Manchester United in 2021, scoring his first senior goal on the final day of the COVID-19 affected 2020/21 season.
He became a regular member of Man United’s squad before earning a £15m move to Forest in 2023. Before his exit from Carrington, he had gotten a good reputation from inside the training ground.
That was evident in comments from former teammate Dalot just a couple of weeks before his move to Forest was confirmed. Speaking on Man United’s website, Dalot said: “Anthony Elanga, for me, is probably one of the most professional guys that I’ve known since I started football.
“I also see a lot of myself in him in terms of trying to wait for the opportunity to come and show to everyone that you are capable of doing it.
“He never lost his way of showing everyone he is here to help and he is here to play and he’s been doing that every single day in training. I am sure the opportunity will come and he will be ready for it.”

Eddie Howe will love Diogo Dalot’s comments on Anthony Elanga
Given the way he has played over the last two seasons, it is clear that Elanga has put the work in off the pitch to improve his performances on it.
Howe and Elanga have already set out a scope for improvement, with both sides understanding what he can work on at Newcastle. Additionally, Elanga is believed to be very excited about working with Howe at Newcastle.
Elanga will become the third Swedish player in Newcastle’s first-team squad when the deal is announced, joining Alexander Isak and Emil Krafth. The winger is also great friends with William Osula. Elanga and Osula are regularly seen in each other’s comments sections on social media, but they will now be teammates.
Osula has already shared his delight at Newcastle signing Elanga. He will be hoping that he gets the opportunity to play alongside him next season.
