Everyone associated with Newcastle United will be praying that Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton come out of tonight’s World Cup qualifier in one piece.

The Magpies duo are in the Brazil squad that is going to take on World Cup holders Argentina tonight, as they continue their qualifying campaign for the 2026 tournament in USA, Mexico and Canada.

It has been a poor international break for Brazil so far. Despite taking the lead, they were beaten 2-1 by Colombia last week, with Luis Diaz scoring a brace. Bruno Guimaraes played the whole game, with the Brazilian media giving a mixed verdict on his display.

As for Joelinton, he was an unused substitute. That was a positive thing for Newcastle fans, as it meant he could not pick up an injury ahead of a busy period of games in black and white.

Next on the agenda for Bruno and Joelinton is a clash with Argentina. Games between Brazil and Argentina are always feisty, and tonight will be no different.

Toon fans will be eagerly waiting to find out if both players come through the game unscathed, and a new report has stated whether or not they will feature in the starting lineup when it kicks off at 12:30am GMT.

Bruno Guimaraes to start for Brazil against Argentina

According to Globo in Brazil, Bruno Guimaraes is expected to start for Brazil in the middle of midfield. However, he will reportedly not be joined by Joelinton.

It is a case of one in one out for the Geordie duo, just like it was against Colombia.

Bruno will have to be at his combative best to succeed against the Argentinian midfield, and hopefully he is able to do that as safely as possible.

After the game against Argentina, both Bruno and Joelinton will return to Tyneside, where they will both need to start Newcastle’s next game on Saturday.

The Magpies face Chelsea at St James’ Park, and Eddie Howe has limited options heading into that game. He will be absolutely desperate for Bruno and Joelinton to return with no fresh bumps and bruises, as he aims to get Newcastle back on track after consecutive defeats before the international break.
