The Premier League fixtures for the 2025-26 season have been released and Newcastle United now know when they will face fierce rivals Sunderland.
Newcastle United were already looking forward to the 2025-26 season massively after their spot in the Champions League was confirmed on the final day of the recently concluded campaign.
After winning the Carabao Cup, Eddie Howe guided Newcastle back to Europe’s top competition, hoping to go further than last time.
However, they have since been given even more reason to anticipate the forthcoming season as fierce rivals Sunderland earned promotion after defeating Sheffield United in the Play-off final.
While the Black Cats’ dramatic Wembley victory wouldn’t have brought any joy to the Toon, the fact that the Tyne-Wear derby is on the cards again is massive for both clubs.
The Premier League 2025-26 fixtures were released on Wednesday morning and here is when Newcastle will face Sunderland and some more key games.

Newcastle United vs Sunderland dates
Newcastle and Sunderland have not met in the Premier League for nearly a decade, with the last derby before the Black Cats’ relegation coming in March 2016. It finished 1-1.
That long wait will finally come to an end on Gameweek 16, when the old foes meet first at the Stadium of Light. The game will be played on Sunday, December 14, with kick-off coming at 2pm and it will be predictably televised by Sky Sports.
The return fixture at St. James’ Park comes on Gameweek 31 on the weekend of March 21.
However, that could change as the Carabao Cup final is scheduled for March 22 and Newcastle will be eager to retain their trophy.

Newcastle haven’t beaten Sunderland in the league since Ryan Taylor scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory in August 2011.
In the nine league encounters since, there were three draws and Sunderland won six in a row. However, the two teams did meet in the FA Cup in January 2024, with the Magpies running out 3-0 winners.
