When Alexander Isak could return for Newcastle United after Wilson injury blow

Newcastle United have received some horrible injury news regarding Callum Wilson, but there is at least a positive update regarding one of his teammates.

Toon fans have been rocked by the news that Callum Wilson is going to undergo surgery after picking up a pectoral injury during the win over Nottingham Forest. That could rule him out of action for as long as 12 weeks, meaning his season could be over.

It comes at a time when Newcastle United are struggling for strikers. Top scorer Alexander Isak is also out of action, having picked up a groin problem during the win over Aston Villa last month.

The 24-year-old has missed Newcastle’s previous two games, and it had been expected that he will miss Bournemouth as well. That is what Eddie Howe said about him, after all.

However, a new update suggests that Alexander Isak could be back sooner than anticipated.

Newcastle receive positive injury news on Alexander Isak

According to the Daily Mail, Isak has an outside chance of being involved in Newcastle United’s game against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Magpies take on the Cherries at St James’ Park, and it feels like Callum Wilson’s injury will result in Anthony Gordon leading the line. However, there is a possibility that Isak might be available.

Whether he is involved or not, the fact that he is close is massively encouraging. And it is welcome news following the crushing blow about Wilson.

While he is going to be out long-term, it sounds like Isak could be back very soon. Howe will have to be extra careful with Swede, as he will be the only striker he’s got for pretty much the rest of the season.

It will be great to get Isak back, as he has been enjoying a sensational campaign. He has been lethal when fit, scoring 14 times so far.

And he could soon add to that tally as he closes in on a return to fitness. Fingers crossed he is fit and available for Saturday’s game against Bournemouth.
