When Newcastle United are expecting Alexander Isak to return from his injury

Newcastle United lost yet another player to injury as Alexander Isak was forced off in the first half of the victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday.

Eddie Howe had claimed after the game that he was hoping it wasn’t anything too serious but that they needed to have a closer look before determining anything.

Now, journalist Luke Edwards has claimed that the ‘early indication’ suggests that Isak will be out for around two to four weeks, leaving Newcastle without a striker unless Callum Wilson makes a return this weekend.

Newcastle’s injury woes continue with Isak blow

It’s been the story of Newcastle’s season so far, get one player back from injury and another goes down immediately after, leaving Howe with a very thing squad to compete with.

With his strikers it’s been particularly prevalent with Isak and Wilson effectively taking turns at being out injured, so it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see Wilson pick up another knock in four weeks time.

For the time being, however, it looks like Anthony Gordon will have to play a more central role and Miguel Almiron will be forced to play on the left where he looked quite threatening against Aston Villa.

On social media, Edwards said: “Early indication is that Alexander Isak will be out for around two to four weeks with his groin injury. But it’s still too early to say for sure and we’ve had bad news before after scans etc this season.”

It may be too late for Newcastle to solve the problem

There’s only a matter of hours left in the transfer window and while Newcastle would like to add to their attacking ranks in the January window, time is not on their side.

It looks like the only possibility now would be a possible loan move for someone with former target Hugo Ekitike being offered around by PSG, but it’s unclear what terms they would be after and if he would be keen.

There just simply hasn’t been enough money in the budget for Newcastle to reinforce this squad and it ultimately may cost them a place in Europe if injuries continue and results don’t go their way.
