Sources close to Anthony Gordon have now shared what the winger is really like in training for Newcastle United.

Gordon didn’t get off to the best of starts to life at Newcastle, but he’s been incredible this season and arguably Newcastle’s most important player.

Now, as reported by The Athletic, sources close to the former Everton man say he is ‘obsessed’ with being the best at everything and especially at training, something Newcastle fans will love.

Gordon’s determination shows in his Newcastle performances

It’s quite clear by now the type of players that Eddie Howe wants to fill his Newcastle team with, and Anthony Gordon epitomises that type character.

The 22-year-old’s willingness to fight for every ball and put himself in the firing line to make a last-ditch tackle or block is the reason why he’s been in such brilliant form in a black and while shirt this season.

With 13 goal contributions in 19 games, it has certainly been a breakthrough season for the winger who is now surely knocking on Gareth Southgate’s door as England look ahead to this summer’s Euro 2024 tournament.

This is not a new personality trait that Gordon has developed – those who are close to him claim that the young man has always been driven and wants to make everything a competition so he can be the best.

Speaking to The Athletic, someone from his inner circle said: “He’s obsessed with being the best; it physically hurts him if he hasn’t been the best in training.

“He has that personality. Everything’s a game. Everything he has to win.”

Gordon is a man transformed

There were more than a few doubts when Newcastle confirmed the £45m signing of Gordon from Everton with man y stating their dislike for the player during his previous visits to the North East with the Toffees.

However, the 22-year-old very quickly was able to completely flip the supporters’ opinions of him on its head with so many now appreciating the work he puts in every week.

The Gordon we saw at Everton, throwing himself to the ground and engaging in fights with players for no reason, looks to be gone, but he’s still got that edge to him that makes him so appealing to the St James’ Park crowd.
