Anthony Gordon has been a revelation for Newcastle United this season.
The winger struggled for the first few months of his Newcastle career but kicked on over the course of the summer break.
Gordon has scored six goals, including winners against Arsenal and Manchester United, this season while laying on a further three assists.
Touted as one of the Premier League’s standout stars by Jamie Carragher, the Sky Sports pundit has poured more praise on the 22-year-old.
Anthony Gordon: Jamie Carragher backs “blistering” Newcastle star for Euro 2024
Indeed, speaking on the Stick To Football show on YouTube, Carragher tipped Gordon as a potential wildcard pick for England at Euro 2024:
“Someone who could come out of the pack who’s not there yet is probably an Anthony Gordon, who has got blistering pace,” he said.
“I think he’s the one on that left position where he gets back [defensively].”

Anthony Gordon: England’s loss is Newcastle’s gain
It would be fantastic for Gordon to be rewarded for his fine form with an England call-up, particularly having starred for the U21s this summer.
Still, at this point, England’s loss is Newcastle’s gain.
Eddie Howe has been dealing with a ridiculous injury crisis and the idea of adding more games to Gordon’s schedule is hardly ideal. Even by the next international break in March, Newcastle could still have European football on the calendar.
While he is believed to be on England’s radar and surely deserves a call from Gareth Southgate, Gordon is surely best focusing on purely Newcastle right now.
A reported £40m is looking like a real bargain at the moment and Howe’s work with the player has yielded so much.
It has been a remarkable turnaround in form and positional rivals at England level in Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling aren’t exactly covering themselves in glory. On form, he deserves it.
However, from a purely Newcastle-centric view, it’s best to have Gordon remaining on Tyneside.
