Newcastle United continue to be linked with a move for a new manager.
While Eddie Howe is currently believed to retain the support of the Newcastle hierarchy, it will be fascinating to see just how long that lasts.
Howe, of course, deserves trust from PIF, with Mehrdad Ghodoussi having previously stressed he would like the former Bournemouth boss to be their version of Sir Alex Ferguson. There are a serious of mitigating factors for this season’s malaise from injuries, recruitment issues and Sandro Tonali’s ban from football, all of which Howe is believed to be pointing to behind the scenes.
Still, Amanda Staveley has talked openly of the club’s ambition to win major trophies. As such, there is a certain amount of pressure on Howe to deliver long-term, even if Newcastle seemingly won’t make any rash decisions.
Jose Mourinho has previously been touted as a managerial target, while stand-in Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann has recently been linked.

Still, according to The Chronicle, senior sources at St James’ Park stressed that Howe will be given time to turn things around when asked about the links with the former Bayern Munich manager.

Newcastle news: FA Cup huge for Eddie Howe
With European qualification by way of Premier League finish looking increasingly unlikely, the FA Cup is surely the last shot of glory for Howe this season. Though judging him on winning it or not would seem harsh given the club’s record when it comes to winning trophies, a deep run would be something to cling onto during what remains of this season.
The omens, however, do not look overly promising. Newcastle only edged past Blackburn Rovers thanks to a penalty shootout and drawing Manchester City away in the quarter-finals is about as hard as it comes.
Howe has earned his trust but it will not last forever.
