Newcastle United have a new manager on their radar according to reports in Germany.

Less than 24 hours after Eddie Howe guided Newcastle United into the quarter finals of the FA Cup, there is talk of him being replaced at St James’ Park.

There has been a lot of outside noise surrounding Howe as of late, with plenty of pundits questioning whether he is the right man to get Newcastle United to where the owners want to be.

It was recently claimed that Howe’s job as Toon manager is safe, and his position can only get stronger the longer the Magpies are in the FA Cup.

However, a new report from Christian Falk suggests otherwise.

Newcastle interested in Julian Nagelsmann

According to Bild journalist Christian Falk, Newcastle United are interested in hiring Julian Nagelsmann as manager.

He has stated on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the 36-year-old is yet to decide whether to return to club football or continue in his role with the Germany national team.

Falk adds that Nagelsmann is represented by the same agency as Fabian Schar, who recently signed a new contract to keep him at St James’ Park until 2025.

Huge shock if Nagelsmann replaces Eddie Howe at St James’ Park

Talk of the Newcastle United owners replacing Eddie Howe seems completely farfetched right now. There is no reason for the former Bournemouth man to be relieved of his duties, even if this season is not going as well as the 2022/23 campaign.

But the Magpies overachieved last year, while this season has been massively hindered by a plethora of injuries and the suspension to Sandro Tonali. Given everything that is going on, Howe’s side are not doing terribly. And they still have a chance to win their first domestic trophy since 1955.

However, Nagelsmann would certainly be a majorly high profile appointment if Howe were to leave the club. He is an extremely exciting young manager, and is actually on Liverpool’s radar to replace Jurgen Klopp this summer.

But now he seems to be an option for Newcastle too, which seems extremely strange. Surely the only way Howe will leave the club this summer is if England come calling, which might happen if Gareth Southgate leaves after Euro 2024.
