What rival clubs are hearing about Newcastle’s financial position this summer

It’s been a very strange summer for Newcastle United.

Newcastle have actually managed to bring in three players this summer, although Lloyd Kelly is perhaps the only one who improves the first-team in any meaningful way.

Still, they have also been forced to sell players against their will in order to balance the books due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

That has led to some rather slow weeks in the transfer market, albeit it could be argued that not all too many teams in the English top flight have significantly strengthened just yet.

Things do appear to be turning for Newcastle at least.

Indeed, a deal to sign William Osula from Sheffield United is reportedly nearing completion, while talks with Crystal Palace over a move for England international Marc Guehi are believed to be underway.

Now, some further insight into Newcastle’s standing in the transfer window has emerged.

What rival clubs are hearing about Newcastle’s spending power this summer

According to Miguel Delaney of the Independent’s Reading the Game newsletter, rival Premier League clubs are waiting to see what Newcastle do next.

There is said to have been conflicting information on PIF’s spending power, with some believing that Newcastle still need to make a major sale.

Others, however, are thought to be under the assumption that a sale would only be necessary were Newcastle to go out and spend heavily themselves.

Where Newcastle go next in the transfer market

Eddie Howe is believed to be keen on two major signings this summer, so it will be fascinating to see if a sale will in fact be necessary.

After hopefully wrapping up a deal to sign Osula, the club are expected to go big on moves for a centre-back, presumably Guehi, and a new right winger this summer.
