Newcastle United have every reason to be delighted with the signing of Yoane Wissa, even if they did have to pay more than they wanted to.

On transfer deadline day, Newcastle signed Yoane Wissa from Brentford for a fee of £55million.

That amount makes him one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever, as he became the sixth senior summer signing at St James’ Park.

Newcastle know they overpaid for Wissa, but are hopeful that their decision will soon be justified. They got the extra striker they needed to support Nick Woltemade, and there is real belief that the Magpies’ new number nine can hit the ground running.

The DR Congo international is going to bring goals to Tyneside, but Toon officials believe he can offer even more than that.

Newcastle United love Yoane Wissa’s versatility and more

Wissa’s ability to find the back of the net is not the only thing that drew Newcastle United to him.

According to the Athletic, Newcastle were also impressed with Wissa’s versatility, his ‘power and running ability’, the fact he is so often available, and his record in the Premier League over the years.

Combine those factors with his ability to score goals and Newcastle United are right to have every confidence in their, albeit expensive, signing.

They are all great attributes. Wissa can play out wide or alongside another striker, which gives Eddie Howe the option of getting Woltemade in his team as well.

His running power should suit the Magpies’ pressing style, while his impressive availability is more than welcome given the fact he is technically replacing the often injured Callum Wilson.

Finally, his history in the Premier League will take the pressure off of Woltemade. While the 23-year-old will need time to adapt, Wissa has the tools to have an immediate impact.

What Eddie Howe said about Yoane Wissa joining Newcastle United

Howe pushed to get Wissa through the door on transfer deadline day, and will hope that his insistence is justified.

The Newcastle United manager was very happy to welcome the forward to the club on 1st September, explaining to the club’s official website what he will bring to the Magpies’ squad.

“Yoane is a player who we have admired for some time and we’re delighted to have him on board,” he said.

“He brings proven Premier League quality, demonstrated not only by his goalscoring output but also the crucial work he does for the team.

“Yoane’s style of play will excite our supporters and complement our style of play – he has pace, power and an excellent work rate. He immediately makes us stronger.”

Wissa could make his debut against Wolves on Saturday, having shaken off an injury concern following his international commitments.

He features in Geordie Boot Boys’ predicted Newcastle United XI to face Wolves, with Woltemade on the bench.
