What has disappointed Eddie Howe about his start at Newcastle

Despite only being in charge for a few days, Eddie Howe has had a great start as Newcastle United manager.

Fans are excited by his appointment. They love the fact he turned up at 6.45am on Tuesday, and they love the video of his training session even more.

Little things have endeared Howe to the Toon Army immediately, and he spoke very well in his first interviews on Wednesday.

But before the big press conference, Howe sat down with the club’s in-house media.

The 43-year-old spoke about the importance of having the international break before his first game against Brentford, but admitted there is one downside to it.

“Obviously there’s some players that aren’t here which is a disappointment, but it is what it is,” he said.

Six Newcastle players away on international duty

While Howe is putting his new players through their paces, he is currently without six men.

Miguel Almiron, Martin Dubravka, Jeff Hendrick, Emil Krafth, Jamal Lewis and Fabian Schar are all away on international duty.

It’s disappointing for Howe, and it will be disappointing for the players too. It will massively hinder their hopes of featuring in Howe’s first game on November 20th.

It’s probably a bigger blow to those players than it is Howe. Almiron and Dubravka are probably the only two in that list who should be guaranteed starters.

Krafth is in and out of the team, Schar is massively out of favour, and so is Lewis. The less said about Hendrick the better…

They will all be under pressure to make up for lost time when they return from representing their country. By then, a lot of their teammates may have already earned their place in Howe’s starting XI.
