Newcastle United are in Germany right now, but later this month they will be off to Japan.

Having also visited Australia at the end of the season, the Newcastle United squad is racking up plenty of airmiles during 2024.

Eddie Howe and his players have arrived in Germany this week, as they take part in a training camp at Adidas HQ.

Garang Kuol is in the Newcastle United squad, while Alexander Isak has also linked up with his Toon teammates.

Newcastle’s pre-season plans

It will be an important few days in Germany, before they return to England for their first friendly of the summer. That is against Hull City on July 27th.

Once that game is out the way, Newcastle United are heading to Japan. That is the headline tour of pre-season, much like the trip to America was last year.

The Magpies will play two friendlies in Japan, as they prepare to face Urawa Red Diamonds and Yokohama F Marinos. Interestingly, the latter were managed by Harry Kewell, but he has now been sacked.

What Eddie Howe wants before Newcastle head to Japan

The plan is for Newcastle to travel to Japan immediately after the friendly against Hull City on July 27th.

Eddie Howe and his players will arrive on July 28th, and the Toon boss is hoping to have a stronger squad by the time they head to the Far East.

That is according to the Athletic, who report that Eddie Howe would like Newcastle to make two signings before they head to Japan.

They state that Howe is keen for new signings to arrive very soon, with Newcastle set to hold recruitment meetings in Germany this week.

Newcastle United’s new sporting director Paul Mitchell could have a busy fortnight on his hands.

Eddie Howe is keen for him to make two new signings in the next 12 days, which is a big ask.

Newcastle have a £100million transfer budget to spend, and Mitchell is tasked with bringing in a winger and a centre-back. A striker could also be on the agenda, but that might depend on Callum Wilson’s future.

The first two positions are Newcastle’s priority, and it is up to Mitchell to provide Howe with the players he needs. Howe wants reinforcements that can take Newcastle to the next level, so the objective for Mitchell is clear.

The aim is for him to make two major signings in less than two weeks, which is going to be extremely challenging. No pressure, Paul…
