While Dan Ashworth might be leaving, one Newcastle United figure in Emil Krafth is staying put.

It was announced on Wednesday that Emil Krafth had put pen to paper on a contract extension with Newcastle United. His deal was due to expire at the end of the season, but he is now going to be staying until 2025.

The 29-year-old is delighted to commit his future to the club, having been linked with a move away from St James’ Park during the January transfer window.

But Eddie Howe is retaining the services of Krafth, who is a reliable player either at right-back or centre-back. He has never let us down when he has played this season, making nine appearances in all competitions.

Now that his future is secured, Howe will be turning his attention to the other players who could depart in a few months.

Eddie Howe to address contract situation at Newcastle United

According to the Chronicle, Eddie Howe is going to be making more contract decisions over the next few weeks ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Newcastle have got multiple first-team players who are set to be out of contract this summer, a lot of which have been at the club for a long time.

The likes of Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett and Matt Ritchie all have contracts that expire in June 2024, and Howe must decide whether to offer them extension or let them go.

Out of that trio, Lascelles is probably the only one who should be retained. While Dummett and Ritchie have been good and loyal players for Newcastle, they barely play nowadays and will likely be released.

Elsewhere, Newcastle also have a goalkeeper situation to address. Mark Gillespie and Loris Karius are due to become free agents. It feels unlikely that the Magpies will let both of them go, so a decision needs to be made on that front.

There is also the situation regarding Joelinton and his future. While he is not out of contract this summer, he will be in 2025. That is why his future needs to be resolved in the coming weeks.

Sadly, it is relatively straightforward when it comes to the Brazilian. He either signs a new deal or he is sold this summer. Hopefully it is the former and not the latter.
