Newcastle United were not able to sign any players during the January transfer window.
Indeed, FFP limitations proved frustrating for Newcastle, though a big summer is still predicted.
Instead, they have been working on securing the long-term future of some of their players.
Bruno Guimaraes and Lewis Miley have both signed new contracts at the club this season and Emil Krafth has now joined them.
The defender has managed ten appearances this season after a serious knee injury suffered in August 2022 but is seemingly valued by Eddie Howe, who hailed him as “outstanding” after the win over Fulham in December.
Indeed, it was claimed earlier this month that the Sweden international had accepted he’d likely be a back-up player at St James’ Park and would be offered a new deal as a result.
Well, that has now proven to be the case and Krafth has given his reaction after penning a one-year contract extension.
Emil Krafth new contract: Newcastle latest
Speaking to the club’s official website, Krafth said: “I am delighted to extend my time here and commit to Newcastle United for another year. Personally, it’s been a journey of ups and downs since I joined the club, but I feel at home here and I want to repay the faith and support shown in me, especially during my recovery from injury.
“It’s a really exciting time for the club on and off the pitch and I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to continue being a part of that and hopefully help the team finish the season strongly.”

Emil Krafth: Newcastle journey continues
Krafth was unfortunate to have picked up his injury at the time it happened, with the 29-year-old probably playing the best football of his Newcastle career during that period.
With that in mind, it’s pleasing to see him rewarded. Impressive against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup, he has proven he can still offer the team something.
