What Dan Burn has noticed about Alexander Isak ‘now’ compared to when he first joined Newcastle United

Dan Burn has made a big claim about Alexander Isak at Newcastle United.

Newcastle United were beaten in extra-time by Brighton on Sunday in a game that just kept getting worse as it went on.

It all started from the team news when it was revealed that Lewis Hall suffered an ankle injury in Newcastle’s defeat to Liverpool a few days prior and could be facing weeks on the sidelines, putting his presence in the Carabao Cup final later this month in doubt.

Hall joins Sven Botman on in the physio’s room, the Dutchman has been missing for the past month after coming off with a knee problem in the Carabao Cup semi-final win against Arsenal at St James’ Park.

Newcastle were rocked by Anthony Gordon’s red card which means he will miss the final, pending an appeal which does not look likely to be successful.

To add insult to injury, Yankuba Minteh scored in his first game against Newcastle since leaving the club last summer. His muted celebration was a sign of respect towards the Newcastle fans who never got to see him play in a black and white shirt.

Despite the result, Dan Burn and Newcastle boss Eddie Howe still took the time to attend an awards evening where the former heaped praise on his Swedish Newcastle teammate.

Dan Burn believes Alexander Isak is the best striker in the world

For the last two seasons, Alexander Isak has been simply sensational for Newcastle. So far this campaign the Swede has scored 22 goals in all competitions, including the Magpies only goal in the defeat to Brighton on Sunday. The 25-year-old was unlucky not to double his tally after a sensational effort was chalked off after he strayed offside in the build-up.

Isak is a big reason why Newcastle are sixth in the Premier League and preparing for another cup final. Without his goals, there is no knowing where Newcastle would be.

During the North East Football Writers Association Awards, Burn was asked about Isak, who won the Player of the Year award which Howe accepted on the striker’s behalf.

“He’s been unbelievable,” Burn said.

“I think Alex has always had that quality since he very first came here but now he’s putting that together consistently.

“At the moment I don’t think there’s a better striker in the world.

“He’s got a bit of everything, he’s got pace, he’s got power, he can come long, link-up play, he’s a brilliant player so I’m really happy for him.”

Dan Burn has also been fantastic for Newcastle this season

While Burn heaps praise for his Newcastle teammate, he should also take the time to pat himself on the back for how well he has played this season.

Some fans may have felt as if Burn would’ve taken a step back from the starting XI this season but Botman’s lengthy injury absence meant he has still been a regular first-team player.

Burn’s sensational partnership with Fabian Schar continued this season, with the pair keeping seven clean sheets together. With no sign of a return for Botman, there is a big chance the pair will play together in the Carabao Cup final.

The 32-year-old may also realise that it could be his last chance of winning silverware, so he could be extra motivated to bring a cup back to Tyneside for his boyhood club.
