What clubs in Saudi Arabia are really planning for Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron

Miguel Almiron’s future at Newcastle United has been up for debate all summer.

Almiron was linked with a move away to Saudi Arabia despite having snubbed interest from the Gulf State in January before Eddie Howe hinted he was likely to stay at Newcastle.

The situation, however, then changed again when MLS outfit Charlotte FC made a move but that ultimately collapsed.

The 30-year-old is no doubt a fairly divisive figure, having struggled so much last year that a member of the coaching staff was said to have punched the dugout while watching him in action.

Still, former teammate Allan Saint-Maximin has called for respect, talking up just how much Almiron enjoys playing for the club.

Talk of Almiron potentially leaving has been something of a saga all summer and there has now seemingly been a fresh twist.

Miguel Almiron could still leave Newcastle this summer

According to GIVEMESPORT, deal makers in the Saudi Pro League could still make a move for the Paraguay international, if it becomes clear that he is not involved in the Newcastle first-team.

The report suggests Saudi is in fact Almiron’s most likely destination if he does leave Newcastle this summer, with their transfer window remaining open until October 6.

In fact, it is even claimed that Saudi Arabian clubs could wait until September or October to make a move.

Miguel Almiron still has a point to prove in the Premier League

Moving to Saudi Arabia has not been without its risks for players. Saint-Maximin left after only one season, while Jordan Henderson lasted only a few months.

It is a huge decision to make for a player, particularly one with a young family. With that in mind, it’s important to remember that not moving does not mean Almiron is actively looking to cost Newcastle a transfer fee

Indeed, he’s actually believed to be open to a move to a Premier League club, such is his desire to stay in English football.
