Miguel Almiron’s second stint at Atlanta United is well underway after leaving Newcastle United.

The Magpies agreed to cash in during the January transfer window, with Miguel Almiron re-joining Atlanta United for around £11million.

Newcastle United received a PSR boost, while Miguel Almiron got the chance to head back to the MLS and play for a club that he had previously called home for three years.

After leaving Atlanta United in 2019 to become a Newcastle United player, Almiron is now back at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Atlanta United fans’ classy gesture after Miguel Almiron leaves Newcastle United

Atlanta United kicked off their new MLS campaign at the weekend, beating CF Montreal 3-2.

Miggy set up the winner, providing the assist for Edwin Mosquera to give Atlanta United the lead in the 85th minute.

Almiron made history with his assist, becoming the fourth Atlanta United player to record 50 goal contributions in the MLS.

It was a triumphant return for the Paraguay international, who still had a part of Newcastle United with him inside the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Atlanta United fans displayed a banner that read ‘Siempre Wor Miggy Y’All’, which translates to ‘Always Our Miggy Y’All’.

Of course, Wor Miggy is what Almiron was affectionately known as on Tyneside, while Wor Flags had a similar message on a flag dedicated to the attacker.

Miguel Almiron’s next game for Atlanta United

Almiron and Atlanta United are next in action on Saturday night. They are away to Charlotte FC in their second MLS game of the season.

Interestingly, Charlotte FC almost signed Almiron. They wanted him last year, while there was talk of fresh interest in January.

Instead, Almiron returned to Atlanta United, which was certainly a better move for him.

While Atlanta United began the new campaign with a win, Charlotte FC had to settle for a draw as they were held 2-2 by Seattle Sounders.

Charlotte FC are managed by Dean Smith, who has former Premier League players Wilfried Zaha and Ashley Westwood in his squad.
