The transfer sagas are already starting.

Given just how many players Newcastle United have been linked with, differing reports in regards to potential targets were always likely.

Take Gabri Veiga for example. The Celta Vigo star has been strongly linked with a move to St James’ Park amid contrasting suggestions sporting director Dan Ashworth is not particularly keen.

The contrasting nature of such reports is simply part and parcel of the proverbial silly season that is the summer transfer window.

Which brings us to a certain Dominik Szoboszlai.

The RB Leipzig star is another name to have been linked with Newcastle and fresh reports have now emerged.

Indeed, according to French outlet L’Equipe (via Sport Witness), the Hungary star could be the subject of a staggering offer from St James’ Park.

They claim the German club are now looking to sign RC Lens star Loïs Openda as a replacement, largely because they fear Szoboszlai’s exit.

Leipzig are understood to be drawing up plans should their midfielder leave and are reportedly expecting a windfall, weakening Lens’s position when it comes to keeping Openda.

Difficult to know where the Szoboszlai chase stands

While few would doubt the 22-year-old, once hailed as a “special” talent, would be a big-name addition, it’s difficult to know where Newcastle’s pursuit stands.

Though exciting to read reports of a big offer in the works, previous reports have suggested the club remain unsure on Szoboszlai.

Much like with Veiga, different reports from around Europe say different things.

Considering the transfer window is not even open yet and Newcastle have been linked with tens of players, it’s going to have to be something we as supporters get used to.

It’s certainly going to be a long summer…
