Tino Livramento is officially a Newcastle United player, and has praised the work of his agent and the club for getting the deal done.

It was reported last week that a fee had been agreed with Southampton, and he was on Tyneside over the weekend to undergo a medical. He also watched on as the Magpies competed in the Sela Cup.

Livramento was not signed in time to feature, despite Eddie Howe hoping to give the 20-year-old a run out. That means that his Toon debut will come in a competitive game, with the Premier League campaign kicking off this weekend.

The £31million man will hope to be on the bench against Aston Villa. If that is the case, he will provide backup for Kieran Trippier, whose presence helped inspire Livramento to make the move to the North East.

The youngster is going to get the chance to learn from a top class right-back in Trippier, and he has now stated exactly when it was that he decided he wanted to sign for Newcastle.

Tino Livramento was desperate to join Newcastle

Following the announcement of his signing, Livramento has spoke to NUFC TV. He was asked about why he decided to join the Magpies.

“It’s obviously a massive club historically,” he said.

“With the project that they’re on now, it’s really attractive for any footballer.

“As soon as I heard of the interest from my agent, I wanted to try and get this done.

“He worked really hard to get it done along with everyone at the club. I’m really happy to be here.”

Big signing for the Toon project

Shortly after rumours of Newcastle’s interest in Livramento emerged in the media, it was being reported that he wanted to make the move.

Those claims were clearly true, as Livramento has stated that he wanted to sign for Newcastle as soon as he found out that Howe’s side were interested in him.

It was not a straightforward deal. The process was complicated by the massive sell-on clause that Chelsea had in his contract. But that hurdle was eventually overcome, and now the defender is a Newcastle United player.

It is a great signing for the Toon project, as Livramento is a player who can have a very bright and long future at St James’ Park. We might not see his impact in the short-term, but long-term he should prove to be a massive player for us.
