'They know': Newcastle have learned £64m player would rather join Barca than them - journalist

In an exclusive column for CaughtOffside.com, Fabrizio Romano has stated Leeds United winger Raphinha’s is prioritising a move to Barcelona. Newcastle United and Chelsea are two other suitors, but the player is keen on a move to the Spanish giants next season.

TalkSPORT has valued the Brazilian at £64 million. Newcastle admire Raphinha and have the money to pay for him. But Chelsea is going through somewhat of a financial crisis at the moment, which limits their chances of landing the attacker.

Should Leeds be relegated a £25 million release clause will be activated, per the same report. Despite the fact Newcastle admire Raphinha, they also have learned that his priorities lie with Barcelona, meaning the likelihood of him moving to St. James’ Park looks slim.

Newcastle should pursue other targets, Raphinha wants the Barcelona move

A number of Newcastle transfer targets have been reported in a number of positions. Whilst missing out on Raphinha is a shame, other options need to be looked at.

The Magpies have been linked with Ismalia Sarr after a report claimed his agent met with the club in London. Furthermore, following relegation, Watford are now looking to sell him this summer.

Of the Newcastle transfer targets discussed, this one has a lot of truth to it. Additionally, Sarr has shown he can be quality at Premier League level. In a better overall team than the Hornets, the winger could thrive under Eddie Howe.

He might not be quite as good as Raphinha, but it would be an upgrade on Howe’s current options. The Toon need more wingers to bolster their attacking ranks. Miguel Almiron, Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy have all had their moments this season. However, they need someone with a bit more quality and flair.

The aforementioned trio have at times been a little hit and miss thus far. Fraser has been the best performer of the three, but his best performances have come under Howe after a slow start to the campaign.

Newcastle should keep an eye out, in case they can pounce on the Raphinha deal. But there are other strong options available and Sarr is one of them.
