Newcastle transfer news: Watford plan to sell Ismaila Sarr this summer

Watford are reportedly ‘ready’ to sell Newcastle United target Ismaila Sarr.

The Hornets have been relegated from the Premier League, with last Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace confirming their place in the second tier for next season.

They now plan to cash in on some of their most sellable assets – and that includes Sarr.

Ryan Taylor of the Daily Express has tweeted that Watford are ‘ready’ to move Sarr on this summer. They also plan to get rid of Emmanuel Dennis, whose asking price is set at £20million.

But Sarr’s situation will interest Newcastle the most, given the fact they’ve been heavily linked with the winger ever since the Saudi-backed takeover went through last year.

The Daily Mail reported in October that the Magpies wanted to sign Sarr in January. Newcastle did spend big when the transfer window opened, but the Senegal international didn’t arrive at St James’ Park.

But with fresh talks and relegation confirmed, Newcastle’s chances of signing Sarr have increased.

Eddie Howe’s side have continued to be linked with the 24-year-old. It was the Sun who claimed Newcastle are interested in Sarr in March.

There has also reportedly been talks between Newcastle and Sarr’s agent. Football Transfers recently claimed that the Toon have been offered the chance to sign Watford’s number 23. They add that he will cost £40million.

That’s a large fee that would eat into Newcastle’s transfer budget. Despite our newfound wealth, the club are reportedly going to be sensible with their sending this summer.

For £40million, the Magpies can probably do better. Is a relegated midfielder whose numbers are no better than Allan Saint-Maximin’s really a good investment?

Sarr’s got five goals this season and two assists – that’s one less goal contribution than our number 10, who’s underperformed in 2022.

Relegation will push Sarr towards the exit at Vicarage Road, but hopefully not towards St James’ Park. Unless the price goes down, Newcastle should look elsewhere.
