Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Brentford is one of Newcastle United’s most important games of the season so far.
Eddie Howe is desperate to lift a trophy at Newcastle United – that has always been the aim since he was appointed by PIF just over three years ago.
The closest Newcastle have come to silverware is when they reached the 2023 Carabao Cup final before narrowly missing out to Manchester United.
Newcastle now find themselves in the final eight of that same competition and a clash against Brentford at St James’ Park stands in the way of a semi-final spot.
Howe is expected to field a strong XI against Brentford, who have singled out Bruno Guimaraes as a “threat”. It will be a special occasion for Newcastle, and it will be marked with a special edition kit.

Special edition Sam Fender kit to be worn by Newcastle United
Boyhood Newcastle fan Sam Fender is set to return to St James’ Park in 2025 following the release of his new album.
Fender dreamed of selling out St James’ Park and he has made that a reality in recent years, and he has always shared a close connection to the club.
Unfortunately, the 30-year-old singer was forced to cancel his remaining tour dates for 2024 due to illness this week, but the latest news coming out of Newcastle United will put a smile back on his face.
Newcastle announced on Wednesday morning that players will wear a special edition kit supporting the release of his latest album ‘People Watching’.
The match-worn shirts are set to be auctioned to raise money for the Newcastle United foundation.
Carabao Cup is crucial for Newcastle United
Newcastle have just about kept themselves in the race for European football this season with the Magpies currently 12th in the Premier League table.
But every Newcastle supporter would prioritise a trophy over qualifying for Europe with the last major honour coming back in 1955.
Howe’s side are now just three games away from lifting the Carabao Cup – something Newcastle came agonisingly close to doing in 2023.

There is a growing feeling that Newcastle will have to sell a star in 2025. The dreamy project proposed by PIF has been hamstrung by financial rules, but lifting a trophy would remind the club’s biggest stars that Newcastle are on a journey to the very top.
Less than two weeks after losing to Brentford in the Premier League, Wednesday’s cup tie is a must-win for the Magpies.
