It’s an absolutely massive week for Newcastle United as they take on Brentford in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.

Newcastle United got back to winning ways in scintillating style on Saturday as they tore Leicester City to shreds, winning 4-0 in a match that easily could have finished double that score line.

Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Lewis Hall were sensational as a Jacob Murphy double and headers from Bruno Guimaraes and the Swedish striker gave the perfect confidence boost to start a humungous week.

Pressure had started to mount on Eddie Howe after just two wins in 11 matches but the performance was the perfect example of what Newcastle are capable of.

They will need to perform to a similar level if they are to defeat a Brentford side who beat them 4-2 just over a week ago and earn a place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Here’s everything you need to know about the fixture.

Newcastle United vs Brentford team news

Newcastle won’t be without Joelinton after he picked up his fifth booking of the season on Saturday, who will miss the weekend’s clash with Ipswich Town instead.

They will, however, be missing fellow midfielder Sean Longstaff who has been booked twice in the League Cup so is suspended.

Though Sven Botman returned to action with the Under-21s on Monday, he remains at least a couple of weeks away from returning to the first team. It’s also unclear if Nick Pope is back fit after a knee injury kept him sidelined vs Leicester.

However, there are no fresh injury concerns for Howe. The manager said: “I don’t believe so. We still have training today, of course, so we look forward to that, but at the moment I think from Saturday we’re fine.”

Brentford, meanwhile, are without Josh Dasilva, Mathias Jensen, Aaron Hickey, Rico Henry and Gustavo Nunes.

Referee and officials

There will be no VAR in operation for the game.

Prediction

Newcastle may have lost to Brentford less than a fortnight ago and be largely inconsistent, following up great results with poor ones, but they should be confident here.

Though they are incredible at home, Brentford’s away record this season has been terrible and the Magpies’ raucous home crowd should play in their favour.

Either way, it’s bound to be another high-scoring affair.

Prediction: Newcastle 3-2 Brentford.

When is the Carabao Cup semi-final draw?

Should Newcastle advance past Brentford, then they will be in the hat for the semi-final draw.

In it, they could come up against either Arsenal or Crystal Palace, Southampton or Liverpool, or Manchester United or Tottenham.

The draw will be held on Thursday night following the conclusion of Spurs vs United, approximately at 10:30 pm and broadcast on Sky Sports Football.
