The demand Newcastle United fans were heard shouting at Jason Tindall during win vs Crystal Palace

Newcastle United moved up to third in the Premier League after a dominant win against Crystal Palace.

The Magpies barely had to move into second gear during the game, perhaps their opponents had one eye on their upcoming FA Cup semi-final with nothing to play for in the Premier League.

Newcastle United put five past Crystal Palace at St James’ Park, with usual suspects Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes getting on the scoresheet.

Alexander Isak scored for Newcastle after failing to find the back of the net in his last two appearances. Isak was frustrated not to score against Manchester United but was rewarded for his hard work by scoring Newcastle’s fifth.

Marc Guehi scored his second own-goal against Newcastle this season, just a couple of minutes after Eberechi Eze’s spot-kick was saved by Nick Pope, adding more salt to the wounds.

Newcastle made it 3-0 in first-half stoppage time before adding a fourth just a few minutes later. But after the third goal was scored, fans could be heard making one big request to assistant manager Jason Tindall.

Newcastle United fans make Joelinton request during Crystal Palace win

Joelinton was brilliant for Newcastle against Crystal Palace. The Brazilian bagged an assist for Isak’s goal and continued to show why Eddie Howe was right to move him into midfield.

Tindall took Joelinton off at 5-0, but the 28-year-old was far from pleased at the decision. Joelinton could be seen ‘raging’ with Tindall, but ultimately did walk off the pitch.

While he may not have liked the decision, it was one that fans had already been calling for. Noted by the Chronicle, fans in the Milburn Stand could be heard shouting “Get Joey off!” to Tindall after Newcastle scored their third goal.

Much to their surprise, Joelinton came back on the pitch for the second half and was only taken off in the 63rd minute.

Despite his performance, fans were desperate for Joelinton to leave the pitch because he was just one booking away from receiving a two-match ban.

Like Bruno Guimaraes during the 2023/24 campaign, Joelinton has gone several games without a booking to ensure he is available for two important games against Aston Villa and Ipswich Town.

Jason Tindall expains Joelinton substitution during Newcastle United win

While he found the decision tough to take, substituting Joelinton was clearly the correct decision to ensure he can play with more freedom in the final six games of the season.

Fans were nervous during Newcastle’s win against Man United when Joelinton argued with Manuel Ugarte as he was being brought off. The Brazilian gestured that he would meet him in the tunnel at full time, but nothing seemed to have come from it.

Post-match, Tindall was asked about Joelinton’s reaction.

“It just goes to show he can do it,” Tindall jokingly told the Northern Echo.

“Of course, that was always in the back of our mind, hence we’ve brought him off in the last two games probably earlier than he normally would come off.

“It’s testament to Joe because it’s difficult when you’re such a physical player like he is to go that long without receiving a booking. That’s difficult, but credit to him, and thankfully we’ve now avoided that deadline and Joe is free to be Joelinton.”

With two assists in his last two games, Joelinton has been an unsung hero as of late due to how well Sandro Tonali has performed. Thankfully, he should be within the starting XI against Villa on Saturday.
