Miguel Almiron has left Newcastle United after six years on Tyneside.

It was an emotional farewell for Miguel Almiron who has returned to the club he joined Newcastle United from in 2019.

Almiron’s move from Newcastle to Atlanta United was confirmed by the club on Thursday – Newcastle will pocket around £11m from the deal, a big help for PSR.

Newcastle have lost a player who gave a lot to the club in his 223 appearances. Although his form has not been sensational this season, fans will never forget his efforts.

The highlight of his time at Newcastle was undoubtedly the 2022/23 season where he scored 11 goals and won the Premier League’s Player of the Month award in October 2022.

Almiron was given his moment to thank Newcastle fans at the end of the Magpies 3-1 win against Southampton. Toon boss Eddie Howe pushed Almiron towards the fans who chanted his name.

With Almiron’s Atlanta move imminent, words from a recent report have shown what Kieran Trippier loved most about Almiron.

Kieran Trippier’s appreciation for Miguel Almiron

Newcastle defender Trippier has not featured in many games for the Magpies this season after losing his place in the starting XI to Tino Livramento.

The 34-year-old has still featured at times this season – most recently in Newcastle’s shock loss to Bournemouth at St James’ Park.

There were believed to be emotional scenes at Newcastle when Almiron said his goodbyes – Trippier may have been involved in them.

According to The Telegraph, Trippier loved playing with Almiron when he was consistently playing at right-back because he knew that Almiron would come back and help in defence.

Trippier and Almiron played with each other on 89 occasions at Newcastle. He has only played more games for Newcastle with Dan Burn, Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes.

Kieran Trippier could also leave Newcastle United

While a lot of attention has been on Almiron’s departure, Trippier may leave Newcastle before the January deadline.

Trippier asked to leave Newcastle in the summer but ultimately remained at the club. In recent weeks, reports have linked Trippier with a move to Atletico Madrid, his former club.

On Wednesday it was also reported that Turkish side Galatasaray wanted Trippier in January.

The 34-year-old is out of contract at the end of next season. Newcastle will be keen to offload his £120,000 per week wage to help fund new signings in the summer.

Trippier has made 108 appearances for Newcastle since 2022, scoring four goals and bagging 21 assists.
