Newcastle United fans have voiced their opinions after a leaked concept design for the new club badge was confirmed to be real.

After nearly 40 years without a change, the club has officially confirmed that they are beginning the process of refining and restoring the club badge.

Newcastle United are embarking on a change which will completely alter the identity of the football club, but one they believe will save them time and money in the long run.

After the announcement was made, Newcastle fans were far from pleased. Many believed that there was no need for the badge to be changed.

There was further outrage when Newcastle fans saw the new badge questionnaire, which included limited options for opinion or even to oppose a new badge.

Richard Keys thinks Newcastle do not need to change their badge, and the fans are feeling the exact same way after a leaked concept design was confirmed to be real by the club.

Newcastle United fans on official new badge concept design

A new badge could see Newcastle’s iconic seahorses removed after insiders claimed that they are too difficult to sew on new kits.

However, a recent concept design was leaked on social media, which showed a digitalised version of the current Newcastle badge, seahorses included.

Newcastle fans were invited to a consultation event on Wednesday night, where a club official confirmed the leaked design was real.

With the leaked design confirmed to be official, fans have not taken well to the news.

“Why do they think this is better, absolutely horrendous,” said one fan on X, while another added: “@nufc can’t seriously think that is an option.

“How many designers have been sat around trying to simplify the design of crest and they still can’t get the lion right!?” said this frustrated Newcastle supporter.

This Newcastle fan said: “Horrendous. If their plan is to completely mess up (toned down) then this is the correct path. Really poor effort. It’s a joke that. Literally every fan-generated one has been better. Awful attempt. They need to rethink this.”

Another fan added: “My concern is that a group of high level figures at the club likely sat around and agreed that was the best design out of a selection. How bad must the others have been for them to pick that one?”

Finally, this Newcastle fan said: “Terrified about the eventual agreed upon redesign if that was ever in consideration.”

Newcastle United fans told badge change is inevitable

Newcastle’s badge change is just one of many that have occurred in football over the last decade. Manchester City introduced a new badge in 2016, while West Ham United changed theirs at around the same time.

While fans may have been opposed to the change at the time, they have grown to accept it for what they are. There was always going to be outrage from the Newcastle fans, it is something they must learn to accept when the change finally comes.

Tony Cascarino told Newcastle fans to get over the badge change, claiming that things like this are simply part of football now.

While the former Chelsea and Marseille man admitted change is inevitable, he recognised how iconic the current Newcastle badge is.

A badge change is not imminent, with the beginning of the 2026/27 season the expected date for the new badge to come into use.
