Newcastle United fans react to new club crest announcement
It was confirmed that the crest’s ‘intricate nature’ is coming at a big cost for the club and makes it difficult to translate to the digital world.
Those words make it seem like it will just be a modernisation to the badge, rather than a complete overhaul. Fans have taken to social media platform X to share their displeasure.
“How much money can it really be costing us, though?!” said one fan, while another added: “Leave the badge as it is. It’s iconic. Is there any way to object to this?? because there will be 90% of fans who want this to stay the same. Total disgrace this mind.”
This Newcastle supporter referred to Manchester City’s badge change in the late 2010s, saying: “This corporate mindset is so silly, does Man City’s latest badge communicate anything different to international fans then the previous one? no, it’s just a simple design that looks more like a company logo than a club crest.”
“How is it difficult to translate into a digital world? It’s not like we are still using Windows 95 and Mega Drives.” said this disappointed Newcastle fan.
Another fan added: “Leave the badge alone. It symbolises our club and our city.”
Finally, this Newcastle fan said: “How on earth is keeping the badge the same “costing finances”? Surely it’ll cost more to consult designers, rebrand everything and create a whole song and dance about it? Don’t fix what isn’t broken.”

Newcastle United entering a new era with club crest announcement
When Newcastle were sold to the PIF by Mike Ashley, many knew that a lot of change was coming to the club. Some of it was welcome, while other choices were less so.
Without seeing any designs, fans will immediately be opposed to any change. In reality, this was always going to happen eventually.
The hope amongst the fanbase will be that the club’s identity remains the same even with a new crest.
PIF have already received a lot of backlash for the decision and a lot more will come their way, but they still have the opportunity to do what is right for the club and the fans.
