‘Speechless’… Newcastle United fans can’t believe what they’re hearing about Miguel Almiron

Miguel Almiron looks set to leave Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

Almiron is one of Newcastle’s longest-serving players having joined the club during Rafael Benitez’s reign as head coach in 2019.

The Paraguayan has always been a reliable squad player who respective managers could rely on. Fans will not forget his purple patch during the 2022/23 season which helped Newcastle qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.

This season, Almiron has struggled for minutes under Eddie Howe and looks set to leave Newcastle in the coming days. Almiron is due to return to Atlanta United – the club he signed from six years ago.

Almiron’s Newcastle exit is set to hand Newcastle around £10m – a big help for them while PSR continues to be an issue.

However, in Howe’s press conference which aired on Newcastle’s website, he suggested that Almiron could still stay at the club.

Newcastle fans have since taken to social media to express their feelings.

Newcastle fans react to Eddie Howe’s comments on Miguel Almiron

Atlanta are willing to wait to sign Almiron from Newcastle, but some Toon fans are growing restless over the lack of activity in the transfer window. Howe said Almiron’s “head is solidly here (at Newcastle).”

Newcastle fans reacted to Howe’s words on X.

“If Almiron isn’t moved on this window after failing to move him on last January it’s a major failing! Hopefully, this is just Eddie wording things in a politically correct manner.” one fan wrote. While another added: “What’s the point in selling him if we aren’t replacing him?”

This fan targeted Newcastle’s lack of sales: “We are literally hoarders as a club. We’ll never buy anyone at this rate if we carry on like this.” they said.

Another fan added: “If he isn’t sold this window they will get virtually nothing for him. Same issue as what ultimately happened to Wilson and Trippier.”

“Comes on, runs around in a circle for 15 minutes and contributes offside stats for us. Please can we just get rid of the dead weight? Our inability to sell players is ridiculous.” wrote one fan.

Finally, this fan wrote: “Eddie Howe you are a top manager but look what happened to Anderson and Minteh last summer and genuinely tell me why he shouldn’t be told.”

Newcastle need to sell Almiron

With his contract running out at the end of next season, this could be the final time that Newcastle can get as big a transfer fee as they have for Almiron.

The transfer fee will be a massive help for Newcastle who want to make sure that the club can steer away from a repeat of the summer transfer window where Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh were sold to avoid a points deduction.

As well as Almiron, Lloyd Kelly was subject to offers from Fenerbahce and Juventus. Those approaches were knocked back by Newcastle.

Howe has reiterated that selling Newcastle prospects could happen again if the club are not careful. It has been reported that Newcastle will only buy if they are forced to with injuries to key players.

With the transfer window soon to close. Newcastle must act fast to ensure it is not deemed a complete failure.
