Rob Lee makes Alexander Isak ‘trouble’ claim as he makes Newcastle United transfer plea for January

Newcastle United’s immediate future looks a lot brighter now that Alexander Isak is scoring goals again.

Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever endured a tough start to the season. Goals were not flowing for Alexander Isak, who had been tipped to challenge Erling Haaland for the golden boot.

Then came a toe injury, as Isak endured more misfortune.

But now the 25-year-old is fully fit and finding the back of the net. Isak has scored in four consecutive games for Newcastle United in all competitions. And if it was not for a terrible VAR decision, Isak would have six goals in six games for club and country. Sadly, Isak’s goal for Sweden on Tuesday night was wrongly disallowed.

While that was disappointing, there is no denying that Alexander Isak is very much back.

Rob Lee shares his Alexander Isak worry

However, the fear will be that he gets injured again.

That is Newcastle United legend Rob Lee’s worry, with the former midfielder telling the Chronicle that Eddie Howe’s side could be ‘in trouble’ if Isak succumbs to more fitness problems.

For Lee, the looming January transfer window can ease these concerns.

“We currently have players who can score goals but if Alexander Isak gets injured we are in trouble,” he said.

“I’d like to see us get somebody else in January, I’m sure Eddie will feel the same.”

Newcastle are looking to sign a striker in 2025

Newcastle are always going to be concerned about Isak picking up another injury. However, the fact that Callum Wilson is due to return is a boost, as he is capable of providing adequate cover.

But when it comes to Wilson, he has his own fitness issues. While it will be great to have him back, the fear will always be that the next injury is right around the corner.

And with his contract expiring at the end of the season, it is vital that Paul Mitchell adds another forward to Eddie Howe’s squad.

Newcastle are going to be in the market for a striker in 2025, and one would arrive in the January transfer window in an ideal world. That is what Rob Lee wants to happen, but any deal would be dependent on PSR.

The Magpies are going to be hamstrung financially by PSR once again in January, while they also need to sign a winger and a centre-back. It is claimed that Newcastle will reignite their interest in Marc Guehi.

That will likely mean that a new striker might have to wait until the summer. If that is the case, Newcastle United will have everything crossed that Isak stays fit.
