Newcastle United have extremely high hopes for Nick Woltemade.

He became Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever during the summer transfer window, arriving for a fee of £69million including add-ons.

Newcastle bought Nick Woltemade ahead of Alexander Isak’s exit, and the hope is that the 23-year-old can fill the void left by Liverpool’s new number nine.

While Woltemade is not Newcastle’s number nine, the dream will be for him to score like one. If he does, he will quickly become a hero at St James’ Park.

It is difficult to know what to expect from such a young player who has no Premier League experience, but Rio Ferdinand has made a prediction on Newcastle’s record signing – albeit a strange one.

Rio Ferdinand says Nick Woltemade will be a style icon at Newcastle United

Following the closure of the summer transfer window, Rio Ferdinand has reflected on the business done by the 20 Premier League clubs on his YouTube channel.

The former Manchester United defender turned his attention to Woltemade, tipping the giant striker to become a ‘style’ icon of English football during his time on Tyneside.

“Woltemade, the one that’s gone from Stuttgart to Newcastle,” he said.

“I saw him with the 21s for Germany, banging in goals and creating havoc.

“He is a very good player and probably one of the best style icons for the next three or four years in the Premier League. Great hair. I think he’s got a good muzzie as well.”

Woltemade is certainly a trendy young man, and he looked sharp in his suit as he watched Newcastle’s draw with Leeds.

However, all Newcastle fans will care about is the big German scoring goals in black and white.

Rio Ferdinand asks Yoane Wissa question after Newcastle United transfer

The pressure on Woltemade is slightly relieved by Newcastle signing Yoane Wissa.

He arrived on deadline day from Brentford, with Newcastle paying £55million for Wissa.

His move has been compared to the Isak situation, with Wissa also releasing a statement and doing whatever he could to force a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium.

Following that deal, Ferdinand has asked Newcastle fans how they feel about Wissa’s actions given the Isak situation.

“Wissa, another one causes havoc, puts out a statement, says to Brentford ‘I don’t want to be there’,” he said.

“Bang, gets his move. So Newcastle fans, are you upset that Wissa was doing that to get out of Brentford and come to you lot, the way that Isak was doing the same to go to the champions?

“Come on, make it make sense to me. It’s crazy.”

While there is delight surrounding his arrival, Newcastle fans will not be condoning the way that Wissa has conducted himself this season. It is another instance of player power coming out on top, which is worrying.
