It is absolutely essential that Eddie Howe brings a striker to Newcastle United on transfer deadline day, and he is set to do just that.

With Alexander Isak heading to Liverpool, the Magpies would be leaving themselves extremely light in attack without bringing in a replacement.

That was the fear for Newcastle United fans, but progress has suddenly been made ahead of Monday’s 7pm deadline.

Newcastle have been chasing Yoane Wissa for a long time, with the 28-year-old desperate to leave Brentford and move to St James’ Park.

That is now set to happen, 24 hours after Wissa released a statement on his Brentford future.

Yoane Wissa to Newcastle United is a done deal

The DR Congo international has made it very clear that he wants to leave Brentford, and now the striker is getting his wish.

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed to Geordie Boot Boys that Wissa to Newcastle United is a done deal, as Howe prepares to add another striker to his squad.

The deal is done,” he said.

“Brentford have lowered their asking price. I am told it is going to be below £60million and is around £55million.

“Yes, it is more than Newcastle initially wanted to pay but they wanted Wissa from the start. He was their top choice to replace Callum Wilson all along.”

Geordie Boot Boys are told that Wissa travelled to Tyneside on Sunday night, despite only receiving permission from Brentford on Monday morning.

Yoane Wissa to become one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever

£55million is a lot more than what Newcastle were initially willing to pay, having previously offered £40million for Wissa.

But they are doing whatever it takes to get a deal over the line, as they scramble to sign a striker on transfer deadline day.

Wissa will become one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever, as he prepares to become the third player who has cost them more than £50million this summer. This comes after a £55million deal for Anthony Elanga and the £69million swoop for Nick Woltemade.

Nick Woltemade£69m
Alexander Isak£63m
Sandro Tonali£55m
Anthony Elanga£55m

The deal will push Newcastle’s summer spending beyond the £250million mark, having also brought in the likes of Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey.
