Newcastle United are eager to keep hold of Alexander Isak next season, but there will be interest this summer.
The Magpies are heading towards qualification for the Champions League after missing out on European football for the 2024/25 campaign.
Newcastle United’s likely return to Europe’s top competition is vital for the future of several key players within Eddie Howe’s first team, including star striker Alexander Isak. The 25-year-old has scored 26 goals this season, including a brilliant 22 strikes in the Premier League – his best-ever season for Newcastle.
Reports earlier in 2025 believed that Isak wants Champions League football next season and believes that is something Newcastle can give him. In addition to his demands, Newcastle want to hand Isak a new contract with the hope of deterring interested parties for the foreseeable future.
For now, Isak has interest from Liverpool and Arsenal, with the former looking the more likely of the two clubs to make a reasonable offer.
However, pundits think Isak wants to stay at Newcastle following their historic Carabao Cup win.
With the Swede’s future still a big topic of discussion, Peter Crouch has confirmed a club he thinks Isak will definitely steer clear of, much to the dismay of Rio Ferdinand.

Peter Crouch rules out Alexander Isak to Manchester United
The former Manchester United defender is not the most popular figure on Tyneside. Ferdinand claimed Jordan Henderson is a better captain than Alan Shearer recently, frustrating Newcastle fans even more.
His old club are now struggling in the Premier League under Ruben Amorim, even losing both their games against Newcastle this season. However, that had not stopped Ferdinand from believing they can still take the Magpies’ best players from them this summer.
In a discussion with Crouch on Rio Ferdinand presents, the latter claimed that Isak could still sign for Man United due to their stature.
“With that decision that Isak’s got, if he goes to Arsenal or Liverpool, like he’s in the conversation,” Crouch said.
“If he goes anywhere else, what is the point?”
Crouch also claimed that the 25-year-old could move ‘abroad’, but Ferdinand said: “(He could go to) Man United, that’s a big club.”
Crouch was quick to shut down that claim by making a big claim about the Red Devils.
“Huge club, but Newcastle are ahead of them in my opinion.”
Alexander Isak looks very unlikely to leave Newcastle United
While Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell are keen to give Isak a new contract this summer, the striker still has three years left on his existing deal.
Ferdinand admitted no club could afford Isak’s price tag. Although it did not stop him from claiming that the team where he won several Premier League titles could sign him.
PIF do not want Newcastle to lose Isak. The belief is that Magpies chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan’s favourite player is the Swede, and he wants Howe to build a superteam around him by 2030.
It has been reported that Isak will cost £150m this summer, a fee that would smash the British transfer record if any club decides to pay it. However, Newcastle have been urged to keep Isak at all costs. Even an unthinkable fee may not be enough to see him leave.
