Newcastle United are planning to hand Bruno Guimaraes a new contract, and a report from 90min has provided a fresh timescale on the extension.

It has been reported since last year that Bruno was in line for a new Newcastle deal. It was claimed that talks would take place in 2023 and that he could become the club’s best paid player ever.

Now 90min report that the Magpies are looking to finalise a deal with the 25-year-old before the end of the current season.

That would be wise, as Real Madrid are reportedly continuing to monitor the Brazil international. They were heavily linked with signing Bruno after allowing Casemiro to join Manchester United.

But Bruno is committed to the St James’ Park project, and there will be huge celebrations when his new contract is announced by the club.

Newcastle fans thought a new Bruno Guimaraes contract was on the horizon recently

Talk of a new contract for Bruno got Newcastle fans excited late last year, and he then had tongues wagging following a cryptic message on his Twitter account.

On January 27th, the midfielder tweeted out two emojis – a pair of inquisitive eyes and a smiley face. There was nothing to go alongside it, as fans speculated that it meant a new contract had been agreed.

That seemingly wasn’t the case, as fresh reports state that Newcastle are still looking to finalise terms with the South American superstar.

Hopefully Newcastle can agree a new deal with Bruno in the coming months. He certainly deserves one, and should be recognised as the club’s most important player. He is enjoying a sensational season, and has a big role to play in the remaining games to ensure we qualify for the Champions League.

Regardless of whether or not we finish in the top four, this has been an extremely encouraging campaign for the Magpies, and the future is bright on Tyneside – as long as Bruno is in the middle…he knows exactly what we need.
