Report: Garang Kuol to Newcastle imminent; loan to Portugal is likely

Garang Kuol’s move from Central Coast Mariners to Newcastle United is official.

That’s according to Australian outlet The Age, who claim that the 18-year-old has signed a multi-year deal to sign for the Magpies. He flew to England to complete a medical after making his international debut, and will cost Newcastle £300,000.

On the face of it, it’s a transfer for a teenager who hasn’t actually started a senior game of football. But on closer inspection, Newcastle are set to sign one of world football’s most exciting talents.

Kuol is incredibly highly rated, and has been targeted by the likes of Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund. But it’s Newcastle who have won the race to sign him, and Kuol will officially become a Magpie in January.

The contract will reportedly make Kuol one of the best paid Australian players on the planet. Considering he’s never actually started a senior game, that’s a real testament to his ability.

However, it might be a while before we see the forward play in black and white.

Kuol to be loaned out after joining Newcastle – Portugal is his most likely destination

Due to Kuol’s limited experience, he is not eligible for a work permit in England. That will not stop him signing for Newcastle, but it will stop him playing for the club straight away.

Instead, Dan Ashworth will send the teenager out on loan. And The Age believe that his most likely destination is Portugal. However, there are no clubs rumoured at the moment.

Regardless, a loan move to Portugal should serve Kuol well in his development.

The standard of football in Portugal is high, which is likely why Ashworth wants to send him there. The Toon Sporting Director will have a clear path set out for Kuol’s development, which hopefully ends with him becoming a Premier League star.

In his limited minutes on the pitch for club and country, Kuol has shown exactly why he is so highly rated. His pace is blistering, and he has the ability to create chances out of nothing.

However, he is still very raw. But that’s not a problem given his age.

While he might be rough around the edges, he has the ability to go on and thrive at Newcastle. This is a very exciting signing.
