Beating Dortmund to Kuol is proof that Newcastle can become a superpower

Newcastle United are reportedly close to signing Garang Kuol from Central Coast Mariners, seemingly winning the race to sign one of world football’s most exciting talents.

Kuol is only 18-years-old and hasn’t even started a competitive game, but he is already turnings heads. He’s been impactful off the bench in the A League, while he’s impressed in a game against Barcelona too.

Now he’s a full Australia international, recently making his debut as a substitute against New Zealand.

Lots of clubs have been linked with the forward, but it looks like it’s Newcastle who are going to secure his signature.

That’s a huge coup given where the Magpies were just a year ago. And it speaks volumes about where the club is going considering that Borussia Dortmund were reportedly in the mix to sign him.

Dortmund wanted to sign Newcastle-bound Kuol

According to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, Newcastle are close to signing Kuol. And that’s despite the fact that Borussia Dortmund have shown interest.

Considering Dortmund’s reputation with young players, it’s incredible that we look set to sign Kuol ahead of them. They are sensational at snapping up talented youngsters, and they very often go on to leave for a huge fee.

The Bundesliga side give youth a chance at the top level, and they have helped produce some of the best players in Europe. You only have to look at Erling Haaland and what he’s doing at Manchester City.

If Dortmund wanted Kuol, he must have huge potential. So for Newcastle to beat them to him is a big statement of intent. It shows that the Magpies are well positioned to become a footballing powerhouse.

That will be the ambition of the owners and Sporting Director Dan Ashworth. The club are making big efforts to sign some of the world’s best young players, showing they have a big eye on the future.

With Ashworth at the helm, we appear to be in very safe hands. If or when Kuol arrives, the Toon Sporting Director will have a plan in place to ensure he reaches his potential in black and white.

One year ago, Newcastle fans had no hope. Now everything has changed and the future is insanely bright. That is epitomised by beating Dortmund to Kuol.
