Newcastle United player contract statuses as nine players can now open talks with a new club ahead of summer free transfer

Newcastle United have six players who they could lose for nothing in the summer of 2025.

Eddie Howe has put together a big and exciting squad at Newcastle United thanks to the club’s new-found might in the transfer market following the PIF takeover.

The Magpies have moved quickly to secure some of their brightest young talent to multi-year contracts but are at risk of losing up to eight players on free transfers in the summer.

Those players whose deals expire in the summer are now free to negotiate with foreign teams and sign a pre-contract agreement ahead of a free transfer.

Here are all of Newcastle’s first-team squad contracts ordered from those with the least time remaining to the most.

John Ruddy – 2025

Newcastle signed veteran goalkeeper John Ruddy on a free transfer after his release from Birmingham City last summer on a one-year deal. His contract is set to expire on June 30, 2025.

Jamal Lewis – 2025

Left-back Jamal Lewis is currently on loan at Brazilian side Sao Paulo and appears unlikely to play for Newcastle again with his contract set to expire in 2025.

Callum Wilson – 2025

Striker Callum Wilson has endured an injury-ridden 2024 and is running out of time to earn a new deal before his current one expires on June 30, 2025.

Mark Gillespie – 2025

Fabian Schar – 2026

Star centre-back Fabian Schar signed a one-year extension with the club in April 2025, lengthening his stay until the end of the 2026-26 campaign.

Martin Dubravka – 2026

Martin Dubravka joined Newcastle back in 2018 and he came close to leaving in January for Saudi Arabia, even waving goodbye to fans after what he thought was his last game.

However, after a good season between the sticks, he has signed a new contract believed to be until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Emil Krafth – 2026
