Bruno Guimaraes made his return to the starting lineup for Newcastle United’s trip to Everton on Saturday afternoon.

The 26-year-old Brazilian started on the bench for the midweek Carabao Cup clash against AFC Wimbledon but enjoyed a flawless display as a second-half substitute.

As the new club captain, Bruno Guimaraes was always going to return to the starting lineup against Everton and Eddie Howe played him alongside Joelinton and Sandro Tonali in midfield.

However, Newcastle’s star trio – who started together for the first time this season against Manchester City – were unable to carve open a well-organised Everton defence.

Newcastle’s best chance of the game fell to Anthony Gordon, but his penalty was saved by England teammate Jordan Pickford in the first half.

It was one of three shots on target that Newcastle took at Goodison Park.

Bruno Guimaraes sends message after Everton draw

Poor performances are starting to catch up to Newcastle, who have now gone three Premier League games without a win.

But there are still plenty of positives to take, including the fact that the Magpies are still flying up in sixth place in the Premier League table.

After the Everton draw, Guimaraes took to Instagram to send a message to supporters.

“Frustration to not get the 3 points,” Guimaraes wrote.

“I think we deserved a win today. No time for regrets. We move on and see you after the international break. Once again, thank you for your support as always NUFC fans.”

Newcastle United lacking creativity

The issue for Newcastle in their last two games has been a lack of creativity and cutting-edge.

The Magpies have had no problem controlling possession against Wimbledon and Everton, but Howe will be worried about the lack of chances being created and converted.

Admittedly, Newcastle were one kick away from taking three points away from Goodison Park, but even still it was an underwhelming performance in the final third.

With the Premier League now on pause for the international break, hopefully Newcastle’s problems up front will be fixed by the return of Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson.
