The prospect of key figures leaving Newcastle United is not something the club have had to consider much of late.
Such is the level of ambition at the club these days, the story has mainly been around what big names would be coming into Newcastle, rather than the other way around.
Still, there have been some noises surrounding one Dan Ashworth of late.
Indeed, Manchester United are reportedly interested in appointing Newcastle’s Sporting Director to a similar role at Old Trafford if and when Sir Jim Ratcliffe completes his purchase for a minority stake at the club.
While Ashworth is believed to be happy at St James’ Park, Man United are said to be determined in their pursuit.
Now, Eddie Howe has spoken on the matter.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s trip to Luton, the Newcastle manager looked to calm fears Ashworth would be leaving.
Howe said (via the Northern Echo): “Of course I’ve spoken to Dan but not necessarily about that.
“It’s very difficult to comment on speculation, whether that be a player or someone in Dan’s position. I’ve got no doubt that Dan is here for the long term but it’s probably a question for Dan rather than me.”

On paper, it’s difficult to see why anyone would leave a well-oiled machine in Newcastle for a club going through such turmoil.
Still, the Manchester giants could perhaps offer him the chance to turn one of the world’s biggest clubs around, which may be a tempting prospect.
Hailed by Gary Neville for his ability to “transform” structures behind the scenes, its important to remember that Ashworth left Brighton for Newcastle, so isn’t exactly one to snub bigger offers out of hand.
Losing Ashworth after such a big pursuit fairly recently would be a hard one to swallow for Newcastle.
