Newcastle United have seen Nick Woltemade make a rapid start to life at St James’ Park following his big move from Stuttgart.

Yoane Wissa’s injuries mean his start to life at Newcastle United has been a little difficult.

Conversely, fellow new signing Nick Woltemade has become an early sensation at St James’ Park.

Woltemade has scored three in three at home for Newcastle and sealed Sunday’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest with a fine penalty.

RB Leipzig boss comments on Newcastle United’s Nick Woltemade

Anthony Gordon has likened Woltemade to Harry Kane for his style of play, with the German far from a conventional centre forward.

Newcastle hero Alan Shearer believes Woltemade isn’t a natural goalscorer, despite his strong start in front of goal.

The hype around Woltemade is building, though, and his start to life in England is big news over in Germany.

RB Leipzig boss Ole Werner oversaw Woltemade’s early development at Werder Bremen and has been asked about the striker’s progress.

Werner has been quoted by Sport1 as saying that he thinks Woltemade is a ‘super footballer’ and a great person.

Werner hailed Woltemade’s development in recent years, but believes he is ‘not finished yet’, predicting further success for the Newcastle hitman.

“He is a super footballer and a down-to-earth, good guy,” said Werner.

“His development is sensational. He matured into a senior player in Elversberg, a Bundesliga player in Bremen, and a top player in Stuttgart.

“He’s not finished yet. Nick picks things up quickly, works on himself, is reflective, and has talent. He has every opportunity to succeed anywhere,” he added.

Nick Woltemade arrives for Germany duty, but he’s still a doubt

Woltemade has again been called up by Germany, but an illness has thrown his prospects into doubt ahead of facing Luxembourg on Friday.

Sky Germany note that Woltemade’s illness meant that he arrived for training a day later than initially planned.

Woltemade was supposed to train alone on Wednesday, but it’s stated that he was unable to participate.

The Newcastle striker is now running out of time to be available for Friday’s game, and he may well be left out.

Germany will face Northern Ireland on Monday, and Woltemade will hope to be involved before heading back to Tyneside.
