Newcastle United picked up another win on Sunday afternoon, beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 at St James’ Park.

Bruno Guimaraes had a hand in both goals as Newcastle piled on the misery for Forest boss Ange Postecoglou.

Bruno curled home Newcastle’s opener before being fouled by Elliot Anderson for a penalty.

Nick Woltemade stepped up to score from 12 yards and seal a 2-0 victory, just days after Newcastle beat Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League.

Nick Woltemade shares verdict on Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe

Bruno had a telling impact in the second half, but Woltemade is the new hero at St James’ Park.

Newcastle signed Woltemade from Stuttgart in August, and the German has made an immediate impact.

Woltemade has now scored in his first three Premier League home games, matching the records of Alan Shearer and Les Ferdinand.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Woltemade praised the energy of the Newcastle side, including players coming on from the bench.

Woltemade also praised manager Eddie Howe, suggesting the Newcastle boss is ‘such a good gaffer’.

Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoeness is a fantastic manager in his own right, but Woltemade seems to be loving life under Howe.

“Big win. Second win in a row. Really important and tough game to come in. Good energy and that was the key point for today,” said Woltemade.

“Now we go into the international break with two wins – that was really important to come into with a good position. We have good energy from the bench. We have done really well.

“When you score as a striker on the pitch, the feeling is really good. The gaffer is such a good gaffer,” he added.

Eddie Howe’s German duo paying dividends for Newcastle United

Yoane Wissa’s continued absence is a source of frustration, but Newcastle are seeing great signings from fellow summer signings Woltemade and Malick Thiaw.

Thiaw has dazzled Newcastle fans after establishing a strong pairing with Sven Botman in defence.

Woltemade is on fire in attack and looks to be Newcastle’s next great striker after a hot start to life on Tyneside.

Anthony Elanga impressed against Union Saint-Gilloise but has yet to really show his best form, while Jacob Ramsey has been sidelined of late.

Howe can certainly be delighted with the impact of German duo Thiaw and Woltemade, and will hope to see his other signings follow suit in the coming months.
